A candidate seeking admission to the Ph.D. programme must satisfy any one of the following eligibility requirements:
A 1-year/2-semester master's degree programme after a 4-year/8-semester bachelor's degree programme
or
A 2-year/4-semester master's degree programme after a 3-year bachelor’s degree programme or qualifications declared equivalent to the master's degree by the corresponding statutory regulatory body, with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed or equivalent qualification from a foreign educational institution accredited by an assessment and accreditation agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country to assess, accredit or assure quality and standards of the educational institution. A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/ Differently-Abled,

A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/ Differently-Abled,
Candidates who have completed the M.Phil. programme with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed or equivalent qualification from a foreign educational institution accredited by an assessment and accreditation agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country to assess, accredit or assure quality and standards of educational institutions, shall be eligible for admission to the Ph.D. programme.
A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/Differently-Abled.
Eligibility for Nursing
(I) Applications are invited from eligible scholars who have obtained.
a) M.Phil. (Nursing) or M.Sc. (Nursing) or a Post Graduate degree in Nursing recognized by Council with 3 years teaching or Clinical experience after M.Sc. (Nursing) for enrolment for Ph.D. in Nursing (part-time) under Faculty of Nursing in the respective University.
b) The scholars should have passed M.Sc. (Nursing) with a minimum of 60% marks.
c) Working in Teaching Institution/Hospital/Community Centre/Nursing Department within the University jurisdiction.
(II) Criteria for Selection
Selection for the Ph.D. Program will be based on merit either by entrance or by M.Sc. (Nursing) (minimum 60% marks).
If the University opts to conduct entrance examination then selection for the Ph.D. Program of the candidate will be based on
i) Entrance test marks obtained out of 90 marks. (Minimum weightage pass marks for entrance will be 60% of 90 i.e. 54).
ii) 5 marks for candidates possessing M.Phil. in Nursing.
iii) 5 marks weightage for publications.

There are no programmes in Languages/ Literature, Psychology, Sociology, History, etc.
SIU offers both Full Time/ Part Time Programmes. Ph D Cannot be offered in distance education mode as per the UGC norms
PG degree is needed with 55 % marks. CA/CS with 55 % marks are eligible. Full time PG Diploma of IIMs, XLRI are eligible
The eligibility is decided based on higher degree acquired and not by the area of research.
Those who are holding PG diplomas from other institutions have to submit equivalence as given by statutory bodies like AICTE/ UGC/ BCI. Approval given AICTE/ Equivalence given AIU is not admissible for eligibility.
Experience is not compulsory. Graduates with long experience are not eligible.
Those holding NET/ SET/ GATE/M Phil are exempted from the entrance exam. But a personal interview is compulsory. The score must be valid on the date of application.
Long experience does not entitle any exemption from entrance tests.
International candidates (NRIs, Foreign Nationals and PIOs who have obtained Master's degree from foreign universities) are required to qualify IELTS with 6.5 score or IELA Test (Band 3) of SIU ELTIS, an equivalent test for English language proficiency.
