Since its creation, the Faculty of Law, SIU has sparked renewed interest in researching how legal frameworks serve to both consolidate and expose governance practises to future legal challenges. The Faculty of Law uses a multidisciplinary framework to organise its research and instructions. It has four constituent Law Schools institutes under its banner at Pune, NOIDA, Hyderabad and Nagpur respectively. The Symbiosis Law School, Pune was established in 1977. It has been ranked 3rd in 2022 by National Institution Ranking Framework (NIRF) of the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India and was also ranked first among the leading law schools in the Super Excellence Survey 2023 of GHRDC. FoL, SIU has the distinction of undertaking research on innovative and emerging legal issues on various themes and thrust areas like health law, advanced technology law, artificial intelligence and law, comparative constitutional law, European union law to name a few. The nature of research at FoL is interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary in nature. We have Currently Ph.D. scholars under FOL are pursuing their research on innovative topics like Artificial Intelligence, Legality of Weapons of Mass Destruction, Social Media and Law, Nanotechnology, Biotechnology and Law, Living Wills and Right to Health to list a few. The empirical research is ensured in all spheres of research. Our Ph.D. supervisors have national and international degrees and training in varied focus areas for legal research. FoL have a dedicated team which provides constant support, guidance and handholding towards early completion and submission of Ph.D. Regular review meetings are conducted by Dean to ensure that all scholars are constantly moving ahead in their research journey. Personal counselling and reviews are ensured to motivate scholars. Our research supervisors are well trained to guide students.
Scholars have the choice to attend coursework with offline or online. The syllabus is holistic in nature and includes both theoretical and practical training for legal research methodology. It is divided into two parts and followed up with multi-level assessments done by the scholar in consultation with their Supervisors. Our team is dedicated towards seamless delivery of coursework
We encourage quality publications and publications in WoS/Scopus indexed journals as it is a mandatory requirement for successful submission of Ph.D. SCLASAR and research supervisors, guide and collaborate to ensure timely publication by research scholars.
Dr. (Mrs.) Shashikala Gurpur is a distinguished academician and orator having presented more than 325 invited lectures, workshops and seminars across India, Thailand, US, UK, Ireland, Germany, Australia, Canada and UAE. She has an outstanding career with a wide range of experience in teaching, research and industry and is continuing with Symbiosis Law School since 2007. She is a pioneer of EU Legal Studies in India. Dr. Gurpur received Ph.D. in International Law from Mysore University where she was also the topper and Gold medallist in LL.M. She has more than 26 years of teaching experience and her teaching and research interests include Jurisprudence, Media Laws, International Law and Human Rights, Teaching and Research Methodology, Feminist Legal Studies, Biotechnology Law, Law and Social Transformation besides guiding more than 100 Masters. 15 Ph.D. theses have already been submitted under her guidance and 8 are currently registered.
Dr Gurpur has more than 85 articles/research papers including publications in WOS/Scopus indexed journals, two co-authored books and fifteen book chapters to her credit. Dr. Gurpur has been a former member of Law Commission of India. Currently, she is a member of Curriculum Development Committee, Bar Council of India and Academic Council of National Judicial Academy, Bhopal. She is the advisory and Ph.D. referee of several National Law Schools and Universities across the India. She is a reputed resource person for Ph.D. coursework and training programmes in national and international institutions including National Judicial Academy, Bhopal.
